Eastern Greene comes up short at home

Sunday, January 20, 2013

Cascade extended its winning streak to five games with a 57-52 victory over host Eastern Greene in a non-conference high school girls basketball game Saturday.

The Lady Cadets improved to 12-5 while Eastern Greene slipped to 6-9.

"I was very proud of our effort," said EGHS coach Zack Stevens. "The girls continue to play hard for 32 minutes.

"Cascade is a good team, as their 12 wins would indicate."

Eastern Greene led 45-38 going to the fourth quarter.

"We did a poor job of stopping penetration in the fourth quarter," he said. "We couldn't keep them out of the lane and that resulted in being out of position and committing silly fouls.

"We were up 47-40 and made three straight turnovers and they converted each of them into points. That's what turned the game around."

Sierra New hit two 3-pointers and led EGHS with 15 points. Alex Dubois scored 11 points and Hannah Resler tossed in 10.

Cascade won the junior varsity game.

EG will host Clay City Thursday.

"We have four games to build momentum going into the sectional," said Stevens. "I am really proud of the way the girls have been competing.

"We want to finish the season strong."
