Lady Miners top Loogootee

Monday, January 21, 2013

The Linton-Stockton Lady Miners shook off a slow start then rallied to erase a first quarter lead on their way to a 37-33 win over host Loogootee Saturday afternoon.

The win was the third of the year for the Lady Miners against 15 losses.

"Very good team win for us, we got contributions from several girls today, including some stepping up and giving us some solid minutes who normally do not," Linton-Stockton coach Brad McKinney said. "We were very flat to start, I think our energy level was a product of the illness and injuries we are dealing with right now."

The Lady Miners trailed 13-6 at the first stop before rallying for an 11-6 advantage in the second quarter to cut the lead to 19-17 at the break, then used a 13-10 advantage in the third quarter to dig further into the lead at 29-28.

"We got down 11 in the first half and chipped away to get it back to two at half time," McKinney said. "Brilee (Parker) got us rolling in the third scoring seven straight points for us."

Parker finished the game with nine points and helped set up a fourth quarter rally that saw Linton-Stockton take the win with a 7-4 advantage in the final stanza.

Carlie Booe joined Parker with nine points while Courtney Johnson finished with six, Joie Gadberry five, Mercedes Shafford with six and Maddie Robinson with two.

Jacklyn Nash and Selena Bowman also played adding to the positives McKinney saw in the win.

"We got good minutes from Jackie Nash, Maddie Robison, and Selena Bowman today," McKinney said. "What they did really didn't show up in the box score, but their contributions were big."

There was no junior varsity contest at the request of Loogootee.

Linton-Stockton returns to action Thursday when they host White River Valley.
