Habitual traffic violator with suspended license allegedly caught driving

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

Russell Lee Byers, 47, of Linton, was arrested by Officer Rodney Bredeweg of the Linton Police Department last Friday during a traffic stop.

Byers was booked into the Greene County Jail at 8:05 p.m. on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while being an habitual traffic violator, a class D felony.

Officer Bredeweg was sitting stationary on Base Line Road at SE 7th St. in Linton when he saw a 1993 silver Ford Ranger truck traveling west on Base Line. The police report says the truck failed to stop at a stop sign at railroad tracks so the vehicle was pulled over.

The officer determined that the driver, Byers, was operating while his license was suspended due to being an habitual traffic violator.

Bond was set at $4,000. Byers posted ten percent, $400, and was released the same day.

He is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court on Friday for an initial hearing.
