On Jan. 16, the White River Valley Junior High School girls basketball teams traveled to Dugger for their first road games of the new year.
In the seventh grade game, WRV struggled to find the bottom of the net while managing to hold off the Lady Bulldogs for a 23-17 win.
Dugger led by two going into the fourth quarter, it wasn't until the last 1:40 of the game that WRV finally turned it on and pulled out the win.
Leading WRV was Kassi Morrison with 13, Payton Franklin added six and Whitney Green ended with four.
In the eighth grade game, WRV came out firing on all cylinders going up 14-2 after the first quarter on their way to a 40-17 victory.
Leading the Lady Wolverines was Abby Denham with 14 points while Olivia Frye added eight, Lacey Fisher and
Morrison both added six. Green scored four and Franklin ended with two points.
After having success the previous night against Dugger, WRV faced Vincennes Rivet on Jan. 17 with much different results.
In the seventh grade game it was Rivet posting a 31-18 win over the Lady Wolverines.
Morrison had a 13 point night while Green and Franklin chipped in two points each and Frye finished with one point.
The eighth grade game seemed to be more of the same as WRV faced the next crop of good players in the Rivet system.
Rivet led 23-7 at the half and finished off WRV by a score of 35-14.
Abby Denham led the way for WRV with eight points. Franklin added three, Meggan Miller two and Morrison one.
On Saturday, the eighth grade team traveled to North Knox for a four-team tourney.
The Lady Wolverines opened the tourney with a 36-32 loss to Owen Valley.
WRV jumped out to an early lead but found themselves down by eight points to start the fourth quarter.
Morrison paced the Lady Wolverines with 13 points. Green added eight, Denham posted five, Franklin finished with four and Fisher contributed two points.
The first round loss relegated the Lady Wolverines into the consolation game against North Central.
A slow start in the second half spelled doom for the Lady Wolverines who ultimately fell 29-18.
Only two players scored for WRV as Morrison led the way with 10 and Denham ended with eight.
