She was born in Pike County on May 15, 1929, the daughter of John and Lucille (Soderling) Wood.
She was a 1947 graduate of Winslow High School and attended Oakland City College. She worked in the administrative office at Glenburn Nursing Home for many years, and then in later years volunteered at Glenburn.
Mary was a member of the Linton First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Terry K. Schwinghammer of Indianapolis; a daughter, Susan (Mark) Martin of Brownsburg; a granddaughter, Jenna Martin of Brownsburg; two sisters, Barbara Benjamin of Winslow and Elaine (Alan) Daubenspeck of Santa Claus; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Schwinghammer, her brother, Richard Wood, and her parents.
A memorial service will be held at Linton First Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, with Reverend David Tyra officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
