Eastern Greene snaps losing skid

Sunday, January 27, 2013

Eastern Greene broke a five-game losing streak, defeating host Bedford North Lawrence 65-59 in a non-conference high school boys basketball game Saturday night.

The Thunderbirds won for the 10th time in 16 games while BNL slipped to 6-10.

"This was a terrific effort," said EGHS coach Levi Carmichael. "We have been playing better the last couple of games, but did not have anything to show for it.

"Tonight we were getting all the 50-50 balls that we weren't getting lately. The kids played hard and got a good road win."

Tyler Brough buried seven 3-pointers as part of a 31-point performance.

Briar Martindale scoed nine points, Kurtis Stille and Nathan Sparks eight each, Logan Frye scored seven and Trevor Yoho added two.

"We knew that January would tell us a lot about our season," said Carmichael. "We lost a couple of tough games to Linton and Sullivan, two very good teams.

"It was good to finish the month off on a positive note. We just want to continue to play well and compete."

Blaze Byrer led BNL with 17 points. Trey Burner and Morgan Cummings both scored 10 points.

The Stars won the jv game 56-35.

EGHS will return to conference play Friday when they play at White River Valley. They will host South Knox Saturday for homecoming.
