Lady Bulldogs win No. 7

Monday, January 28, 2013

Union earned its seventh victory of the season after defeating visiting Medora 50-46 in a non-conference high school girls basketball game at Dugger Monday night.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 7-11 while Medora slipped to 8-13.

"They came in averaging about 60 points per game," said UHS coach Benji Boyd. "But they typically are not very good defensively.

"They bank on pressing and trapping and get a lot of steals and getting easy baskets in transition. For the most part, we handled it pretty well."

Union was led in scoring by Hannah Sullivan and Kolbi Reynolds, who each tossed in 16 points. Cali Hale added 12 and Conner Kendall scored six.

"We were able to attack the basket," said Boyd. "They came back in the fourth quarter and started pressing, which threw us off a little bit.

"But to the girls credit, they were able to recover and pull this one out at the end."

Ashley Lambert scored a game-high 21 points to pace the Lady Hornets.

Union will conclude the regular season Thursday in another varsity-only game at Washington Catholic, starting at 6:30 p.m.
