Lady Miners finish winless in SWIAC

Monday, January 28, 2013

The Linton-Stockton Lady Miners fell to 3-17 overall and finished Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference play 0-8 following a 29-24 loss to North Central Monday night at Linton.

The Lady Birds now stand at 7-13 overall and finish with a 3-5 conference tally.

"Tonight's game came down to a few things," Linton-Stockton coach Brad McKinney said. "We shot poorly, did not hit shots."

The Lady Miners trailed 6-4 at the first stop before outscoring the Lady Birds 11-8 in the second quarter to take a 15-14 lead into the lockerroom at the intermission.

"We worked hard to overcome a slow start for the halftime lead and still had the lead at the end of the third," McKinney said. "We got up four in the fourth, but then eight turnovers in the fourth quarter killed us -- we did not take care of the ball and close it out."

North Central outscored their hosts 15-9 over the final 16 minutes, including 9-2 in the fourth quarter.

Mercedes Shafford led the Lady Miners with 11 points. Courtney Johnson added five, Carlie Booe three, Brilee Parker two, Maddie Robison and Joie Gadberry one each.

Jacklyn Nash also played for the Lady Miners who return to action Thursday when they host Barr-Reeve to conclude the regular season.

As the old saying goes, " No Blood, No Foul" Did not hold true last night!

The game last night with North Central was a JOKE!!! Lady Miners were ahead till a girl on the other team took out our leading scorer by breaking and dislocating her nose and even then no fouls were called. VERY POOR OFFICIATING!

North Central plays rough, I believe last year their junior high girls team ended up having a game called by the ref for that same reason. The officials tuesday were not good, I believe they were frustrated with the student section and took it out on a parent (who wasn't being out of line) Refs need to pay attention to what is going on ON THE COURT and not in the crowd, unless of course someone is using foul language or being abusive, which was NOT the case in this game.
