Cards lose at OV

Monday, January 28, 2013

Bloomfield allowed the host Owen Valley Lady Patriots to score 40 points in the second half as they pulled away for a 59-38 victory in a non-conference high school girls basketball game at Spencer Monday night.

OV improved to 14-5 while Bloomfield slipped to 7-12.

"It was a tale of two halves at the defensive end," said BHS coach Chris Hitchcock. "We were tied after the first quarter and down just five in a hostile environment at the half.

"But giving up 40 points in the second half is not going to cut it. That was a major disappointment to me and the girls. We did shoot free throws well (17 of 20) and had some positives, but we could not sustain our defense."

Bloomfield won the junior varsity contest 33-14.

Bloomfield will host Northview in its regular-season final Thursday night.
