'Pink Night' set for Friday at WRV game

Thursday, January 31, 2013

Two local basketball squads are teaming up in the fight against cancer with a Pink Night basketball game.

On Friday, White River Valley is hosting its first "Paws vs. Claws" game against Eastern Greene.

"It is a yearly tradition being started between the schools. Next year, it will be at Eastern Greene," said Dawn Price, who serves as chair for Greene County's Relay for Life.

Pink shirts have been sold at each of the schools. The shirts were printed locally at Linton Sporting Goods.

Price noted that Linton Sporting Goods owner Patti Jones is donating $1 for each t-shirt sold to Relay for Life.

There will also be a raffle with pink Longaberger items, photography certificates, and more.

Proceeds from t-shirt sales, raffles, and other activities will be donated to Relay for Life.

"At half time, we will encourage all survivors and care givers to participate in a victory lap on the floor while the band plays the theme song to 'Rocky'," Price said.

Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society's signature event. Last year, Greene County's Relay for Life raised $56,476

This year's event will take place May 18 from 10 a.m. until 10 a.m. on May 19 at White River Valley High School.

WRV does a good job with pink night and the Relay for Life. We will be there with our pink on. Thanks to Linton Sporting Goods and Patti for her involvement.
