The Greene County General Hospital Foundation is offering businesses and individuals the opportunity to be a part the Emergency Room expansion.
Chief Financial Officer April Settles said the recognition bricks are a way for the community to become directly involved in the construction.
"The engraved recognition bricks is one way for the community to show support for the new addition and building project at the hospital. ... We have also made these order forms available to all our employees at the hospital. The staff has really supported the project and this is a way to get the community involved as well," Settles explained.
The hospital foundation is selling engraved bricks, which will be featured as part of the permanent structure in the new addition to the hospital.
"They (the bricks) are going to become a permanent part of the hospital and incorporated into the landscaping, such as at a bench or as a sidewalk. The actual placement is unknown at this time. It depends on how many we sell," Settles noted.
The bricks are available in a 4-inch by 8-inch size ($50), which will allow three lines of text with 20 characters per line, or 8-inch by 8-inch sizes ($100), which will allow five lines of text with 20 characters per line.
The bricks will be engraved with laser technology to ensure the strength and durability of the bricks.
"Part of the proceeds will go to support the addition. The other portion will go towards the cost of the brick," Settles said.
Settles said those who have purchased a brick so far have chosen several different avenues for the future display.
"We made this available to all our employees at the hospital. They are either commemorating their department or celebrating their achievements. ... Some will buy larger bricks and put in memory of co-workers and list names," Settles said.
Settles said the foundation hopes to continue selling the bricks until May or June, but said the project can be extended if needed.
"We would like to have them sold by the second half of the year," Settles said, noting they would need the bricks ready for the landscaping portion to be completed.
Settles said the hospital is excited to get the community involved in the expansion project because the staff and employees are very enthusiastic.
"With the building project, we are now positioning ourselves to better meet the needs of our community. If anyone drives along they can see we are making progress and it is just an exciting time for all of us," Settles said.
Order forms are available at www.greenecountyhospital.com under the News and Events information. Forms can also be picked up at the hospital in the Administration Office on the ground floor.
Those who are interested in contributing in the building project can give monetary donations in the amounts of $250, $750 and $1,000, and their names will be included in a plaque at the hospital dedication.
The information is available at the Greene County General Hospital, LLC offices or outside the administration offices at the hospital.
