Union wins eighth game

Thursday, January 31, 2013

Union concluded the regular season with a road victory Thursday night.

The Lady Bulldogs won their eighth game, against 11 losses, with a 26-22 victory at Washington Catholic in a non-conference high school girls basketball game.

"It was a pretty ugly game," said Union coach Benji Boyd. "But the girls did a nice job of making enough plays to pull it out.

"It was a slugfest. They did a nice job defensively. There was a lid on the basket all night long for everybody except Hannah (Sullivan)."

Sullivan almost outscored Washington Catholic, who also lost to Union 43-33 back on Dec. 3, by herself.

She finished with 21 points.

"Hannah got some of her points off the break and one basket on an offensive rebound," said Boyd. "We were able to get her the ball and she was able to exploit their zone defense.

"She was able to take the ball to the basket. She had nine field goals and I don't remember her taking one three."

Elizabeth Perkins led WC (2-20) with 12 points. The Lady Cardinals have lost six straight games.

Union will open play at the Class A Clay City Sectional at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Eminence.
