* The Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce will meet on at noon at the Pepperoni Grill in Bloomfield. Sawyer Sparks will be speaking about the Bloomfield Pool.

* In celebration of the month of love, all paperback romances will be on sale throughout February at the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene Public Library. At only $.25 each or 5 for $1, you'll want to stock up. Other books will be at the regular low prices of $.50 for paperbacks and $1 for hardbacks. There is a large selection of all genres. The book sale is upstairs at the main library, 125 S. Franklin Street, Bloomfield.

* The City of Linton Common Council will conduct a special meeting at 5 p.m. in council chambers.

* The Shockers Softball Team will have a "Thirty-One Bingo" at 6 p.m. at the Linton Elks, and doors open at 5:30. There will be 20 straight games, a raffle, door prizes and a 50/50 drawing. Cost is $10 in advance, and $15 at the door. Contact Greg Landry for information at (812) 201-6788.

* The Country Travelers Band will perform at the Lyons Senior Center from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be ham salad by donation only.

* Master Gardeners will meet at 7 p.m. at the Greene County Extension Office.

* The Watershed Coordinator for the Plummer/Richland Creek Watershed Project and the Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District welcomes the public to an advisory committee meeting at 6 p.m. at the Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District.

* The Linton Moose will have karaoke at 8 p.m. The public is invited.

* The Linton Civitan Club will hold a business meeting at JP's Fish and More starting at 7 a.m. Any community member wishing to become involved with the local Civitan club is welcome to attend.

* "Alpaca 101: Fundamentals of Alpaca Farming" is a day-long seminar offered Feb. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (EDT) by White Violet Farm Alpacas at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind., for those just beginning or still contemplating raising alpacas.

* The Lyons Senior Center will have its monthly breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. by donation only. Breakfast will include biscuits and gravy, sausage, eggs, pancakes, milk, and coffee. There will be a door prize given.

Sunday, Feb. 10

* There will be a movie night at the Jasonville Assembly of God at 6:30 p.m. in the church gymnasium. The new release of "Undaunted" will be shown, which is the story of the early life of Josh McDowell, noted public speaker and author of more than 100 books.

* Eastern Greene High School will be holding a fundraiser Prom Dress Sale from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. today in Room 201. Drop off for the dresses is Friday from 3 to 5:30 in room 201, with a $5 entry fee and a $5 sale fee.

* Carnegie Heritage and Arts Center will be hosting a Storytelling at 2 p.m. Please bring your family photographs from days gone by to celebrate life in Linton. If youhave antiques you might wish to show, please bring these. Refreshments will be served.

Monday, Feb. 11

* The Eastern Greene School Board will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. in the Eastern Greene Central Office Board Room.

* Linton City Council will meet in special executive council at 5 p.m. The regular meeting will follow.

* A nurse will be at the Lyons Senior Center from 12:30 to 2:30 to do a free cholesterol screening.

* Greene Education Services will be hosting a meeting entitled "Make your college dreams come true" for middle school students and their families. The event will be held at the Greene County 4-H Fairgrounds at 7 p.m., with Ron McFall as the guest speaker.

Tuesday, Feb. 12

* Bloomfield Chapter 847 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) will meet at Stoll's Country Inn at Linton. A luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the business meeting will follow at 12:30. NARFE meetings are open to both retired and current federal employees and their spouses.

* The meeting of the Executive Board of the Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative will meet in Executive Session at 9 a.m. with the regular meeting to follow at 10:30 a.m. in the Conference Room at the Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative, 77 A St., N.E., Linton, Indiana.

* The Greene County Veterans Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the VFW Post No. 7117 in Worthington.

* The Linton Public Library will be hosting an Adult Valentine's Day Program from 5 to 6 p.m. Learn how to weave a Danish Heart Felt Basket & Create a Vintage Valentine's Day Card. This is a free Program, but space is limited. Please Call or stop in at the Library to reserve a spot.

* Dugger Lodge No. 721 F&AM will have a called meeting with work in the FC degree at 7 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. Visiting brethren are welcome.

Thursday, Feb. 14

* The regular monthly meeting of the Greene County Sheriff's Merit Board will be at 6 p.m. in the conference room of the Greene County Jail, located at 204 CR 70E at the east edge of Bloomfield.

* Parkview Village, 800 S. West St. in Odon, will host a spaghetti dinner with spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, dessert and a drink. Dinner will be served from 5 to 6 p.m., and cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 7. Entertainment will begin at 6 p.m. with Phil Spaulding.

Saturday, Feb. 16

* The Linton Civitan Club will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at Stoll's Country Inn starting at 7 a.m. Trent Wilkes will be present to speak about his recent trip to Canada with Junior Civitan International. Public is welcome to attend.

* There will be a 90th birthday Open House for Ray Correll at the Linton First Baptist Church from 2 to 4 p.m.

* The Linton Public Library will have a Half-Price & Bag Book Sale on Thursday, February 14 from 10-7, Friday, February 15 from 10-5, and Saturday, February 16 from 10-3. Paperback books will be $.25 and hardback books will be $.50. Fill a typical grocery bag for $4. Donations for book sales are greatly appreciated and are welcome any time.

* The Carnegie Heritage and Arts Center of Greene County, located on Vincennes St. in Linton, will host a "Best Little Cupcake Competition" at 11 a.m. There will be four categories, including best tasting cupcake, best decorated cupcake, most creative cupcake and cupcakes made by those under the age of 12.

* The Linton-Stockton junior class is hosting Promapalooza, a prom dress sale and fashion show, at Saron United Church of Christ. Doors open at noon, fashion show starts at 1 p.m. and the sale will run until 3 p.m. For a small fee, they will display your dress and any prom accessories. * The Linton Civitan Club will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at Stoll's Country Inn starting at 7 a.m. State Representative Matt Ubelhor will be present to speak about legislative goals for the 2013-2014 session, as well as answer questions and give a legislative update. Public is welcome to attend.

* There will be a lasagna dinner at the Roy Clark Community Building from 4 to 8 p.m. as a fundraiser for the Linton Swimming Pool. Dine in or carry out is $8 for adults and kids 4 and under will be $4. At the door, tickets are $9.

Sunday, Feb. 24

* Friendly Grove Baptist Church is excited to host Children's Evangelist Steve Harney from Newport, Kentucky. He will be our guest the weekend of Friday, February 22 to today. Steve is a Christian magician and illusionist and uses his talents to reach out to children of all ages. On Friday morning Steve will be at Shakamak Elementary School with some unbelievable tricks and teach them about the importance of good character, good conduct, and staying alcohol and drug-free. Then Saturday at 6:30pm all children and parents of the community are invited to Friendly Grove Baptist Church for a Children's Rally as Steve continues with more amazing illusions and stories from the Bible. Steve will be back at the church on Sunday morning at 10:30am in the adult service to speak about the importance of children's ministry in today's world. * "Know the 10 Signs," a free workshop on detecting the warning signs of Alzheimer's disease, will be held at Saron United Church of Christ on Saturday, March 2, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Saron United Church of Christ is located at 440 First St. N.E. in Linton. The session, which is free to the public, requires registration by contacting the Alzheimer's Association at 800-272-3900.

* Bloomington Area Birth Services is excited to bring you The Baby Fair: Everything from Pregnancy through Preschool on March 3 from 1-4 p.m. at the Bloomington Convention Center. The 2013 Baby Fair will include more than 50 exhibitors, live music, toddler and preschool activities, a baby wearing fashion show, educational seminars, car seat safety checks, a bouncy house, belly painting, and fabulous door prizes. There will also be a lactation station where mamas can relax and nurse or rock their babies during the event. Admission is $5 for adults and children under 12 are free. * Habitat for Humanity of Greene County is accepting applications for a partner family to reside in a home located at 350 Shyla Lane in Bloomfield. Applications can be picked up at Bloomfield State Bank, WIC office, Trustee's office, FSSA office or the Family Life Center.

* Are you using your child's car seat correctly? Child Passenger Safety Technicians at the Greene County Sheriff's Department's Permanent Fitting Station, certified through the Automotive Safety Program at Riley Hospital for Children at the IU School of Medicine, are available to inspect safety seats and offer hands-on instruction on how to properly install your seat in your vehicle. They can make sure you have the car seat that fits your child best and that is properly secured in your vehicle. They may also be able to provide a car seat to families in need who meet income guidelines and in emergency circumstances when a child needs a seat immediately as a result of a fire or vehicle crash. * Greene County Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH) Ministry is still taking donations of beef and cattle. All processing fees are paid for by FHFH. All you need to do is take your donation to Bloomfield Processing Inc., located on State Road 54 West of Bloomfield and tell them you want to donate it to FHFH. All donations are processed into one pound packages of ground burger, then distributed to local food pantries and feeding missions. * Books for Babies is a national literacy program that acquaints parents and newborns with the important role they play in the development of their children. Parents are presented with a Books for Babies kit containing a book, baby's first library card and brochures with reading tips for parents and caregivers. If you are a new mother and a resident of Greene County in one of the following townships -- Richland, Highland, Taylor, Beech Creek, Center or Jackson -- you are eligible for a free gift for you and your baby. Please bring your baby in "to show him/her off" to the circulation desk in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library, 125 Franklin St. in Bloomfield to receive your free gift.

* Bingo at the American Legion in Worthington is on Fridays. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with games at 6:15 p.m. This is open to the public. Cost is $30 for 15 games All proceeds go to the Worthington American Legion. This event is non-smoking with breaks made for smokers to go outdoors.
