The Bloomfield-Eastern Greene Public Library will be hosting an interesting fundraising event Saturday.
From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., patrons will have the opportunity to Golf fore! the Library.
Library Director Cassandra Thompson said tickets for the event will be $5 per ticket or four tickets for $15.
Anyone who signs up for a new library card or renews their library card will receive a coupon for a $1 off their ticket.
There will be 18 holes of golf throughout the library, which are sponsored by local businesses. She added, for example, Greene County General Hospital is sponsoring hole number four.
"There is also a 19th hole for babies," Thompson noted, adding this will be a fun event for the whole family.
Since the library has started to move away from the long-running weekend book sales to a daily book sale, the library thought this could be a new way to bring patrons into the library.
"This is not your typical library event, and we want to show people how great the library is," Thompson said.
Thompson said one goal of the event is to continue to raise awareness for the programs the library offers, and teach patrons about the programs they can even access off the library grounds.
By visiting www.bloomfield.lib.us, users can access the WowBrary, which details the most recent materials added at the library through a weekly email.
Other new programs include World Vital Records, which allows access to genealogy records with a library card.
The second goal of the event is to help keep library programs running. Materials are needed to help the summer reading programs continue to thrive.
The library is also partnered with the Greene County Literacy Coalition, which helps provide education to adults.
"The GED changed to the TASK test in 2014. We need to purchase new materials to make sure we have all the materials necessary for those test takers," Thompson explained.
Thompson said the library staff is very excited about the new fundraiser, and are looking forward to spending Saturday with patrons and educating them about the library while having a good time.
Thompson noted the event will be weather permitting, and if there is a cancellation or reschedule of the event, it will be posted on their website.
