On the Greene County Band Festival

Tuesday, March 25, 2014

Letter to the Editor:

Anyone who missed the Band Festival last Thursday at WRV missed an outstanding program of excellent music.

The combined high school bands of Bloomfield, Eastern, Linton-Stockton, Shakamak, and WRV presented a wonderful free concert for the public to enjoy. The music teachers from these schools, Jen Bolero, Jeremiah Boes, Michael Puckett, Jeff Colvin and Candy Johnson, are to be commended for the hard work they continually give to teach our students the value of music.

The guest conductor for the festival was Ishbah Cox, a professor of Bands at Purdue. He praised the students for their good behavior and dedication to music. Inside the printed program was written this quote: "Children who study a musical instrument are more likely to excel in all of their studies, work better in teams, have enhanced critical thinking skills, stay in school, and pursue further education."

We need to support our school music programs. I am sorry if you missed this concert. Perhaps next year you too will take the time to attend this event to witness the good things our children and their teachers are giving to our community in Greene County.

Thank you students and teachers for a job well done.

Sherrill and Bill Wells
