A 25-year-old Worthington man was booked into jail Friday on drug charges and other felony and misdemeanor counts after he crashed his car into a pole east of Worthington, trying to evade a state trooper attempting to stop him for speeding.

Chad Phillips

Chad A. Phillips is being held on possession of a Schedule II controlled substance - a Level 6 felony; resisting law enforcement with a vehicle -- a Level 6 felony; obstruction of justice, tampering with evidence -- a Level 6 felony; driving while suspended with a prior conviction -- a Class A misdemeanor; possession of paraphernalia -- a Class A misdemeanor; and possession of marijuana -- a class B misdemeanor.

The incident happened Friday just before noon on State Road 157 east of Worthington.

ISP Trooper Richard Klun and his K9 partner Loki attempted to stop a white Trans Am for speeding.

According to the Indiana State Police, once Trooper Klun activated his emergency lights, the Trans Am accelerated at a high rate of speed in an attempt to evade law enforcement.

But the driver soon lost control of the Trans Am and left the roadway, striking a utility pole which broke in two, bringing utility lines down.

The crash scene was located on SR 157 and Baseline Road.

Phillips was identified as the driver.

ISP reported Phillips sustained minor injuries in the crash but he refused medical treatment, and that he was found to be in possession of illegal drugs including a Schedule II controlled narcotic, and that once in custody, he attempted to hide narcotics in the passenger door of Trooper Klun's patrol car.

Others who responded to assist Trooper Klun and K9 Loki on the scene included ISP Master Trooper John Yung, Senior Trooper Byron Goodman, Trooper Zachary Parker, Greene County Sheriff Mike Hasler and the Greene County Ambulance Service.

Phillips was being held at the Greene County Jail without bond.

  • It's not always been a drug town. I grew up there and you could leave doors and cars unlocked anytime of the day or night. Young people nowadays have no respect for anything or anyone. If I could I would still move back there

  • Yes, Proud Aunt!!!

I also grew up there. We could play out after dark with no threats of any kind.

This is a " sign of the times", where man loves himself, more than God.

This is where the disrespect comes from.

We can't disipline our children without threat of imprisonment.Personally, I feel this is why there is so much of this sort of thing going on.

Assuming Mr.Phillips ran due to what he had in his possesion, shows blatant disrespect for authority.

I pray that he chooses a better path for himself in the near future.

  • Hey Linton gal, Linton isn't any better. You make everyone in Linton look bad with those kind of stupid statements. I agree with the others; it is a sign of the times.
