Wannabe robber, armed with a gun, runs after confronted by bar customer armed with a pool stick

Tuesday, August 25, 2015

A man wearing a hoodie with a bandana over his face, armed with a gun, a "wannabe" robber, turned around and ran out of a Linton business early Monday when he was confronted by a customer armed with a pool stick.

Linton Police Chief Troy Jerrell has confirmed that the Linton Police Department is currently investigating an attempted armed robbery that occurred in the early morning hours on Monday.

Jerrell said the call came in to LPD dispatch at 2:42 a.m. from the Palace Bar located on West Vincennes Street in Linton's downtown area.

Jerrell said two officers were on patrol close by and arrived quickly.

LPD Officer Paul Clark and Reserve Officer Jason Wilson responded to the business but the suspect had fled on foot before they arrived.

According to Jerrell, the officers learned a man wearing a hoodie pulled up on his head had come in to the bar and walked through without making eye contact with anyone there, then left.

The suspect then returned but on his second trip into the bar, he was wearing a camouflage jacket over the hoodie that was again pulled up on his head, and he had a bandana covering his face.

The suspect showed a gun and demanded money of the bartender.

The bartender was cooperative but a patron was not.

Police say the patron came quickly from another area of the bar, armed with a pool stick, and confronted the suspect.

Jerrell said police believe the suspect sized up the situation, realized things were "going south" in his robbery attempt, and he decided to back down and get out.

In interviews with individuals who were at the Palace when this incident occurred, police were told the suspect arrived at the business on foot, and he fled on foot.

The suspect was described as being approximately six foot tall, of medium build.

Investigators are reviewing video surveillance footage from the area and they are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the suspect.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact the Linton Police Department by calling 812-847-4411, or contact Crime Stoppers.
