51st Scotland Festival set for Saturday

This year makes the 51st Scotland Festival, which is scheduled for Saturday, September 19.

The past fifty years, residents of Scotland have gathered for family reunions and welcomed friends to visit the town on the third Saturday in September; However, this year things will be operating a little differently.

In past years, a Homemade Ice Cream and Cobbler event has been held outside of the festival. This year, the two will be conjoining for one big event.

The festivities will be in and around Cady Grove, across from the Scotland Hotel. Starting at 10:30 a.m., an emcee will announce the day's events.

The Barber Shop will be open for men's haircuts 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Homemade ice cream and cobbler will be served at 11 a.m. and will last until it's gone.

A free will donation box will be available at both locations.

The Taylor Township Fire Department and the Full Gospel Church will be providing food from 11 a.m. untill 3:30.

A Quilt Show will be held in the Brick Star Studio across from Cady Grove. Anyone is eligible to enter a quilt into the contest. Check in will begin at 9 a.m. and will last until 10:30 a.m.

The Hotel will be open for self-guided tours and Scotland items will be for sale. An art display will also take place in the Historic Hotel and will feature paintings by Vee Hostettler, Sonna Ree, Linda Lohkamp, Sue Manis, Margaret Gingerich, Roy Carter and Vera Mullis.

There will be country and gospel music ongoing throughout the day. Entertainment for the day will include Cindy Richardson and The Million Dollar Band, The Vandeventer Family, High Sierra and Pierce & Friends.

Free children's games will be available and an old fashion cake walk will take place for $1 per ticket. Taylor Township Fire Department will have a few games for children, which will require a small fee. Items donated by local businesses will be raffled, along with a 50/50 drawing.

Everyone is welcome to come out, bring their lawn chairs and enjoy the day.
