Late Friday afternoon, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service announced a substantial reward of up to $10,000 being offered for information in the case of the Lyons Post Office robbery that occurred earlier this month. In addition, they released a sketch of the suspect who allegedly robbed the post office and assaulted a postal employee.

The sketch and information about the reward was released by U.S. Postal Inspector Laura A. Carter, CPP (Certified Protection Professional) working out of the U.S. Postal Inspection's Indianapolis office.

Inspector Carter said with the monetary reward, investigators are hoping someone will come forward with information that will lead to the suspect, an arrest and a conviction.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 8.

On that day, U.S. Postal Inspector Dan Taylor, also from the Indianapolis office of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, reported the robbery occurred at 12:40 p.m. when an unidentified individual robbed and assaulted the postal employee.

Taylor said the employee was approached as she was locking up, then assaulted. The 25-year-old employee, who has been employed at the post office for less than one year, was transported to Greene County General Hospital for medical treatment. Details about the extent or nature of her injuries still have not been released, but Taylor said she was released from the hospital.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is the lead investigating agency on this case and several U.S. Postal Inspectors were on the scene that afternoon conducting their investigation with assistance from the Lyons Police Department, the Greene County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana State Police.

No information has been released regarding what may have been stolen during the robbery.
