Worthington Town Council passes animal ordinance

Tuesday, April 12, 2016

The Worthington Town Council met Tuesday evening, and passed it's long-awaited animal ordinance with a vote of four in favor and one not in favor. A bone of contention to one councilperson and at least one resident present, was the section proclaiming all dogs of "pit bull" descent to be prohibited in the town. As written, the ordinance bans any dog with 25 percent or more "pit bull" blood. The term "pit bull" is the common name for a type of dog. According to Wikipedia, formal breeds often considered in North America to be of the pit bull type include the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and Staffordshire Terrier. No word was given as to how the town will determine the percentage of Pit Bull Terrier in any given animal, but President Mackey Stahl reminded residents that anyone is welcome to come and read the ordinance in full at Town Hall.
