WRV students compete in BPA Regional Competition

On Saturday, December 3, members of Business Professionals of America competed in the Regional competition held at Ivy Tech in Terre Haute. Students were put against BPA members from Shakamak, North Vermillion, and Clay City. As a group they earned 14 plaques and 17 medals resulting in a record-breaking year. All members placed in the top four of their events which qualified them for the state competition in March.

White River Valley members who placed in the regional competition regular events were: Trey Carpenter - 1st in Fundamental Word Processing (with a perfect score), 3rd in Interview Skills; Brayton Cornelius - 3rd in Banking and Finance, 1st in Fundamental Accounting; Katie Eddy - 2nd in Graphic Design Promotion, 2nd in Fundamental Word Processing; McKinley Frye - 4th in Fundamental Word Processing, 2nd in Fundamental Accounting; Kaylie Gayheart - 3rd in Fundamental Word Processing, 3rd in Fundamental Accounting; Ruby Hamil - 3rd in Graphic Design Promotion, 3rd in Intermediate Word Processing; Skyler Sipes - 2nd in Computer Network Technology, 1st in Advanced Office Procedures. Members also earned 17 medals combined in several open events which were open to any BPA attending Regionals.

Business Professionals of America is the leading CTSO (Career Technical Student Organization) for students pursuing careers in business management, office administration, information technology and other related career fields. BPA has more than 51,000 members in over 2,300 chapters in 23 states.

BPA is a "co-curricular" organization that supports business and information technology educators by offering curriculum based on national standards. Resources and materials are available on-line and designed to be customized to a school's program.

The Workplace Skills Assessment Program (WSAP) prepares students to succeed and assesses real-world business skills and problem solving abilities in finance, management, IT and computer applications.

Business Professionals of America State Competition will be held in Indianapolis on March 12-14, 2017. Students who are successful at the state leadership conference will have an opportunity to compete at the national conference in Orlando, Florida in May. Advisers are Ruan Fougerousse and Lisa Mihlfeld.
