Linton, Shakamak both remain in Top Ten of weekly polls

Both Linton and Shakamak remained in the Top Ten of this week’s boys basketball polls.

According to the Associated Press, the Miners (9-3) are ranked sixth in the Class 2A poll after winning last week’s Greene County Invitational. Electors chose Shakamak as the No. 10 team in Class 1A following the Lakers’ third-place finish in the Invitational.

Teams ranked in the Class 2A poll are:

1.) Barr-Reeve (nine votes for first place), 10-1, 262 points, ranked first last week.

2.) Indianapolis Broad Ripple (1), 8-1, 220, 4

3.) Providence (1), 10-1, 214, 5

4.) Oak Hill (1), 10-2,203, 3

5.) Northeastern, 10-3, 140, 2

6.) Linton, 9-3, 110, 6

7.) Henryville, 12-2, 91, NR

7.) Southwood, 7-2, 91, 9

9.) Indianapolis Howe,8-5, 78, 7

10.) Bowman Academy (1), 7-5, 62, NR

Others receiving votes were: Indianapolis Scecina, 37; Cass, 31; Covington, 24; Hagerstown, 22; Westview, 20; Shenandoah, 16; Monroe Central, 13; Lapel, 13; Eastside, 12; South Knox, 12; and Gary Roosevelt, 9.

Barr-Reeve defeated Linton 52-45 on December 9. The Miners will play South Knox on the road at 7:30 p.m. February 2.
