Hazlewood sets Purdue record, again
The records continue to fall for former Linton-Stockton discus thrower Micaela Hazlewood.
Saturday at the Louisville Invitational track and field meet the current Purdue University junior broke her own school record in the discus throw. She improved on nearly every throw, before uncorking a heave of 56.75 meters (186 feet, two inches) on her final attempt.
That distance broke her Purdue record set at last year’s NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla. by over three feet.
Last year at Jacksonville, Hazlewood’s then-record throw of 182-11 broke the Purdue record by seven feet and earned the former Linton-Stockton thrower a second straight trip to the NCAA Track and Field National Championships.
Hazlewood’s record throw Saturday ranks fifth in the country this season and leads the Big Ten.
