Linton wins two games in JV tournament

SOFTBALL

Lintonís junior varsity team beat two teams Saturday afternoon in Terre Haute Southís JV Bash.

The Lady Miners earned a plaque by defeating two teams from larger schools.

Linton 9, Bloomington North 2

Linton clobbered Bloomington North 9-2 in the first game. The Lady Cougars scored both of their runs in the first inning to take an early lead.

However, the Lady Miners scored two in the bottom of the second and three in the bottom of the third, as Camryn Walker doubled in a run, to take control of the contest. Linton banged out nine hits, including a homer by Peyton Bland, compared to four for the Lady Cougars. The Lady Miners also stole six bases, including one theft of home.

Bland went the distance to notch the win for Linton. She gave up two runs and four hits while striking out seven batters and walking none.

Linton 8, Plainfield 3

The Lady Miners beat Plainfield 8-3 in the second game as they smacked 12 hits for the game.

Linton went on top in the first inning when Bland doubled in two runs.

Plainfield got on the board with a run in third, but the Lady Miners scored two in their half of the inning. The fourth stanza saw Linton string together a single by Hannah Frady, a double by Payton Cobble, and a single by Erica Barker to score four runs.

Frady hurled seven innings to earn the W. She yielded three runs and five hits while fanning five batters and walking one.
