SWITZ CITY -- Two steps forward, one step back.

Visiting Owen Valley blanked White River Valley 5-0 in tennis Tuesday evening, just three days after the Lady Wolverines turned in a good performance in the Sullivan Invitational.

“They’ve got a good club,” WRV coach Jimmy Beasley, Sr., said.

However, he added that he was a little disappointed that the Lady Wolverines didn’t perform better. Beasley said the Lady Wolverines (2-9) played Sullivan, Owen Valley, and Edinburgh Saturday and beat the latter squad.

“We had a really nice day at the tournament Saturday,” he said. “This should not be an 0-5 loss. We’ll just keep working on it.”

These were the match results:

No. 1 singles: Kirsten Norman (OV) defeated Kate Records 6-0, 6-0.

No. 2 singles: Liz Walcott (OV) defeated Liz Mowery 6-0, 6-1.

No. 3 singles: Payton Cattorin defeated Summer Blanton 6-0, 6-1.

No. 1 doubles: Mady Baggs and Mackenzie Rice defeated Addi Graves and McKinley Frye 6-0, 6-0.

No. 2 doubles: Amanda Samick and Jamie Rice defeated Kristen Lee and Savannah Krueger 6-3, 6-1.

Beasley said he thinks Graves and Frye are the best doubles team in the Southwest Indiana Athletic Conference, but they got off to a torpid start against the Lady Patriots. He also said Frye was battling illness.

“If they get off to a slow start, they’re really in trouble,” he said.

Lee and Krueger put up the best fight of all the Lady Wolverines, Beasley said. He noted they did not play in Saturday’s tournament because of other commitments, but they usually fare well. He said the Linton match came down to them.

“They usually do pretty well,” he said.

The Lady Wolverines are scheduled to travel to Vincennes Rivet at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Teams visiting Rivet usually play on Vincennes University’s courts, but Beasley said he has been told that those courts have been torn up. He said Rivet officials want to play in Lawrenceville, IL, but he is trying to persuade them to relocate the match to WRV
