Brinegar leads GCO after Day One

Perennial contender Brian Brinegar is the first round leader after day one of the 2017 Greene County Open championship tournament at Phil Harris Golf Course.

Brinegar fired an opening-round 66 and holds a one-shot lead over recent Linton-Stockton graduate and sectional champion Zach Hall.

Two-time defending champion Clayton French and 2016 first flight winner Jacob Gregory are one stroke back of Hall at 68.

Course superintendent Brett Dunkerly lurks one shot behind French and Gregory after his first-round 69.

In the senior flight there is a three-way tie atop the leaderboard.

Mark Pirtle, the 1983 GCO champion, 2016 senior runner-up Rich Montgomery and Dennis Johnson all posted opening rounds of 69.

Play resumes Sunday at 11:45 a.m. for the second round of the 36-hole tournament. Players will be flighted based on first-round results.

The championship flight tees off at approximately 2:30 p.m.
