A new Greene County group, created by Linton’s Jared and Brittney Albright, aims to raise awareness of an issue close to their hearts.

Go Gold Crew Inc. is a Greene County-based nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness of pediatric cancer and inspiring others into action.

According to the group’s social media page, Go Gold Crew’s main goal is to raise awareness for pediatric cancer. The page states that every day, 43 children are diagnosed with one of the many forms of the disease, yet pediatric cancer research is tremendously underfunded, and the group, by bringing attention to the issue, hopes to generate research funds that will improve survival statistics for children diagnosed with cancer.

Also stated is another motivation for the group’s formation. Go Gold Crew seeks to offer resources to local families, to help them navigate the world of pediatric cancer.

In that light, the new group will hold a fundraising event in September, which is National Pediatric Cancer Awareness month.

Called “Greene Goes Gold,” the event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 9, with doors open at 6 p.m..

The fundraising event will take place at the Greene County Community Event Center, located at 4503 IN-54 in Switz City.

The evening will feature a catered, buffet-style meal by Annette Ladson with roast beef, ham, corn, cheese potatoes, salad, roll and dessert bar, and a cash bar by Pat Sparks.

A silent auction will be held, featuring such items as a ticket package for the Indianapolis Colts and an autographed photo of Chicago Cubs Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg, gift certificates, vendors with items including Matilda Jane, Lularoe, jewelry, antiques, yogurt tasting, and Disney Magical Vacation Planners, a photo booth, event t-shirts and keynote speakers Joe and Savannah Boone, who will speak of Savannah’s journey and how having cancer has affected her life.

“Our family has been very blessed to have so many people and organizations that have supported Savannah throughout her journey, both financially and with prayer,” said Joe Boone. “We are so very honored to be a part of the Greene Goes Gold event this year.”

The younger Boone has battled cancer for some time and is currently in remission.

“I feel it is my responsibility to educate everyone on the struggles children with cancer face every minute of every day,” Savannah said.

Several sponsors have committed to the group, including Dirt Captain Car Wash, Amplified Technology Services, Ridge Medical Center-Dr. Frederick Ridge, Faegre Baker Daniels, Hi-Lift Jack Company, Lewellyn Technology, Monical’s Pizza, Dr. Scott Powers DDS, Strategic HR Solutions, the Rowe Law Firm, Correll’s LP Gas and Baesler’s Market of Linton.

Tickets are available at www.eventbrite.com, and are $25 for a single ticket, $45 for a couple’s ticket and $150 for a table of six, plus service charges.
