Lady Wolverines keep clawing, but Vincennes gets the win

SWITZ CITY -- Scrappiness was not enough against a bigger school Thursday night as Vincennes Lincoln swept host White River Valley in straight sets.

Vincennes Lincoln triumphed by a 25-19, 25-10, 25-22 margin over WRV (8-15). WRV coach Shaun Brown said the Lady Wolverines produced a good effort against the visitors.

“We played pretty well tonight considering Vincennes Lincoln is a pretty big school,” Brown said

The Alices took early leads in the first and third sets, and WRV could never quite catch them. Vincennes won the second set easily, though.

“It seemed like some of their hitting got us out of our system,” Brown said.

The Lady Wolverines settled down in the third set, never letting Vincennes getting a lead of more six points, 18-12, and nearly knotting the score several times.

“I’m pleased with the third set,” Brown said. “We didn’t give up and get frustrated. We were able to battle. We played together and didn’t give up.”

Payton Franklin led the Lady Wolverines with eight kills and Lacey Walker hammered five. Only two other Lady Wolverines smacked even one kill.

They could use the services of Kaylie Gayheart who is out with a leg injury. Brown said he is not sure when she will return to action.

Vincennes Lincoln defeated the WRV junior varsity (5-10) 25-21, 25-15.

WRV travels to Clay City at 6:00 p.m. Thursday.
