Bethany Christian Church of Bloomfield will host its 69th Homecoming. Sunday School at 9:30 a.m., worship service at 10:30 a.m., fellowship meal at 12:30 p.m. and afternoon services at 2 p.m.
The Pruett and Bowersock 2017 Family Reunion will be held at the Worthington Park Community Building. A pitch-in dinner will take place at 12:30 p.m.
The Dugger Coal Festival chicken noodle dinner will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dugger Community Building. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 3-10.
A community worship service will be hosted at Dugger First Christian Church during the Dugger Coal Festival at 6:30 p.m. All area congregations are invited to provide special singing. The Pierre Chastain Family Association will celebrate its annual reunion Oct 6-7 in Louisville, KY. The national association of descendants of Dr. Pierre Chastain, a French Huguenot, meets yearly in different places around the country. All Chastain descendants are welcome regardless of whether their name is Chastain. Association records will be available for research.
Activities include presentations on Chastain Huguenot descendants, Manakin Town and Jamestown, and lost Virginia records. Emory Alzheimer’s Research Center will give an update on their Chastain research. Additionally there will be entertainment, a silent auction, and time to tour Louisville. There will also be the traditional banquet Saturday night.

Shakamak High School Girls basketball team will host a Jonah’s Fish Fry from 4-7 p.m. at the Jasonville Fire House. Patrons can eat in or take out. Fish, baked beans, coleslaw, applesauce, desert and drinks will be available.. Adults will be $8 and children will be $5 with ticket, or adults $9 and children $6 at the door. Owen County YMCA will be offering swing dance lessons starting Tuesdays from 6:45-7:45 p.m. starting Sept. 12 and going until Nov. 12. $24 per seven week session for Y members and $48 for non-members.
The Bloomfield Lions Club in partnership with the 2017 Apple Festival Committee will be selling shirts for the 2017 Bloomfield Apple Festival. All profits from this project will go towards Lions service projects in the local area. Shirts include short sleeve T-shirts ($10), long sleeve T-shirts ($15), Raglan Hoodie ($20) and regular hooded sweatshirt ($25). All shirts will have the 2017 Apple Festival logo on the front and an optional company log on the sleeve or back (company/organization must order six or more). The expected delivery date to the customers is the week of Sept. 25. in Greene County and surrounding counties. The pre-order deadline is Monday, Sept. 11. Greene County Right To Life’s annual Fall Banquet is scheduled for October 21, 2017. District 62, Indiana State Representatives, Jeff Ellington will be the keynote speaker for the evening and the Dave Melton Family Singers will be providing the music. Watch for more specific information at a later date.
Greene County Right To Life will have a booth at both the Scotland Festival in September and Bloomfield Apple Festival in October to hand out literature and answer questions about how others can help to bring abortion to an end. The new tennis courts located north of the baseball field on the Linton-Stockton School Corporation campus are open for public use Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. These times will be adjusted once the Boys Tennis season begins.

Griefshare features nationally recognized experts on grief recovery topics. Every second and fourth Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. all people who knit are welcome to join the Bloomfield Public Library in the Reading Room. Part of the Legacy Project is knitting as well. Patrons may bring their own projects to work on or get started with needles and yarn that the library can provide for their first work.
The Worthington Senior Citizens Center holds a breakfast on the second Thursday of every month from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. On the last Wednesday of every month there is a pitch-in lunch. Every Tuesday evening at 6:30 there is a Euchre Tournament at a cost of $3. Bid Euchre is played Monday through Saturday at 9 a.m. and pinochle on Thursday and Friday at 1 p.m.
Bloomfield’s Enhanced Fitness class is welcoming new participants. Classes are held at the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield and taught by Darlene Jolley. The class is open to men and women and consists of low impact exercise to oldies music and takes place from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. No additional equipment is needed but a donation of $1.50 is required. Yoga classes are also available at 9:30 a.m. A mat is required along with a $5 donation.
The Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will meet in the conference room at the USDA Building in Bloomfield on the first Tuesday of each month. November through March, the meeting will begin at 7 a.m. April to October the meeting will begin at 6 a.m.

The Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library provides free delivery of materials to any homebound patron living within the service district which includes residents of Richland, Beech Creek, Highland, Center, Taylor and Jackson Townships. Permanent or temporary homebound patrons are encouraged to contact the library at 384-4125 to begin delivery service.

The Bloomfield Public Library is establishing a bulletin board to be a central spot to look for local job listings and they hope to include any job openings that are within walking distance of Bloomfield town. If area businesses will notify the library when they have an opening, a flier will be created for them and posted on the bulletin board. The Scotland Historical Society has Greene County themed afghans to sell. The afghan features popular Greene County landmarks and consist of a list of all Greene County cities and towns lining the afghan. The multi-colored afghans sell for $45 each and may be purchased at Main Street Gifts in Linton or by calling Brenda Massette at 384-5118.
Making A Difference, a small group of Linton First Christian Church, will sponsor Second Saturday Soup each month, which will include free lunch for anyone from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the East Shelter House at Humphreys Park in Linton. Look for signs. Homemade lunch menu will vary.
The town of Switz City will conduct its monthly meetings on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Switz City Town Hall. If the Monday falls on a holiday, the meeting will be conducted the following Tuesday. The town hall is located at 220 Charlotte Avenue in Switz City.
The Bloomfield-Eastern Greene Public Library will host Preschool Story time on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. for ages 4-6 yrs. Come and listen to a children’s story read by Mrs. Linda and enjoy a craft.
