Lady Miners demolish Barr-Reeve

An incredible start to the season continues for the Linton-Stockton Lady Miners. Linton-Stockton improved to 3-0 on the young season with a 66-25 thrashing of the Barr-Reeve Lady Vikings Tuesday at Barr-Reeve.

“I thought our defensive effort tonight was really good in the second half,” Lady Miners coach Jared Rehmel said.

It must have been as Barr-Reeve managed just four second-half points - only one in the third quarter, three in the fourth.

The offense was good as well as Linton-Stockton raced out to a 38-21 halftime lead before applying the pressure in the second half.

Aubrey Burgess paced the potent Lady Miners attack with 18 points. Vanessa Shafford added 15 as nine different Linton players dented the scoring column.

“I thought our depth played a big role in the separation we created in the second half,” Rehmel said. “I couldn’t be more proud of our effort from everybody.”

Linton-Stockton travels to Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference foe North Central Thursday.

WASHINGTON BEATS EASTERN

Pressure and poor shot selection equaled disaster Tuesday night as Washington mauled visiting Eastern 59-22.

The Lady Hatchets applied a press early and it resulted in a 20-5 lead after one quarter. Washington led 32-7 at the break and just pulled away in the final two quarters.

“We struggled against their pressure early,” Eastern coach Justin Burris said. “We continue to turn the ball over too much. Our shot selection needs to get better.”

Michelle Hatfield led Washington with five points.
