Greene County hit with ice and snow

The Greene County area was hit with rain, sleet, freezing rain, and snow overnight Thursday into today.

The National Weather Service forecast for today is calling for some additional sleet or freezing rain in the morning, with snow accumulating to 1 to 3 inches. According the NWS, the chance for snow is 100%.

The high today is expected to reach 28, and the low tonight will be around 15. The high Saturday is expected to be around 22.

Residents shared on the newspaper’s Facebook page this morning what they’ve witnessed when out and about.

Walter Clinton Lawson said: “This is Wally from the picnic basket (Bloomfield) and I've been watching the conditions all night the trucks are out salting and treating the roads however the areas that aren't being treated such as driveways parking lots sidewalks are beginning to ice over or rather have already iced over. Be very cautious as you're going to your cars this morning and in parking lots.”

BrandynRyan Brown offered: Just came from I-69 from Francisco to Bloomfield roads are very slick use extreme caution stay in if you can not worth the risk

Dixie Covey-Turpen shared: “ If you're coming to Bloomington it's nothing but ice, especially near the mall. Took this picture at circle k/Shell's.”

Pauline Uebel said: “Rural area untreated roads are very hazardous. Be cautious and slow your speed down if need to drive!”
