Lions roar past Wolverines
After three close losses to begin the season White River Valley’s first-year baseball coach Bob Wills spoke of the need for the Wolverines to close the deal and finish games.
Friday against the visiting Loogootee Lions WRV barely got started.
The Wolverines got off to a good enough start as both teams put a run on the board in the first frame. But the Lions tallied six in the second inning, then crossed the plate 11 times in the third on the way to a five-inning 18-4 win.
Loogootee put two runs across to start the third frame and the bags were filled with Lions with no outs. A walk, a hit batsman and an error brought three more in and WRV trailed 12-0.
Adam Greene lined a base hit to center driving in two more runs. After another free pass Landon Harder stepped to the plate and delivered a 2-RBI double. Nathaniel Hart followed with a 2-RBI single for the Lions’ final tally.
Loogootee rapped out 17 hits. Five walks, three hit batsmen and five errors put more Lions on the basepaths.
WRV answered with three runs on three hits and a Loogootee error in the fourth, including a two-run homer off the bat of Cade Eaton. But the hole they’d dug themselves was too deep for the Wolverines to claw their way out of.
Next up for WRV is a trip to Shakamak Tuesday.
