BICKNELL -- The Miners won only one event, but managed to squeak past South Knox Friday night to win the North Knox Warrior Invitational.

The Linton boys scored 102.5 points to win the event, followed by South Knox, 100; North Knox, 97; Washington, 74; White River Valley, 64; Sullivan, 53; Barr-Reeve, 52; Vincennes Lincoln, 52.5; and North Central, 29. North Daviess had athletes compete for the boys, but no team score was recorded.

Initial results had South Knox beating Linton by half a point, but meet officials failed to count Jarrett Rose’s best throw in the shot put. That was good enough for sixth and an additional three points to place Linton in first.

Both Lynn and WRV coach Claire Records said athletes of both schools set personal records on a warm night perfect for competition.

“All of these guys had a great meet and I can’t really single out anyone because they all performed so well,” Lynn said. “There’s a lot of great competition at this meet, so for us to win really shows how hard these boys have been working. I am incredibly proud of them.”

Two WRV athletes won the throwing events. Eddie Garcia (WRV) won the shot put with a throw of 44 feet, six inches while Clayton Hoover threw the discus 135-9 to place first. Silas Robbins of Linton placed second in each event, throwing the shot 43-9 and the discus 134-5.

She ran both hurdle events, finishing second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.25 and second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 51.94. Lynn said all of her times were season bests.
