Single-vehicle accident sends man to hospital
A Monroe County man was airlifted from the scene of an accident near Bloomfield Thursday night.
Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Harvey Holt said Nathan Dickens, 35, struck a tree in a single-vehicle accident on State Road 54 near Ray Road Thursday around 9:30 p.m.
Holt said a witness advised Dickens’ 1990 Chevy pickup truck was westbound on State Road 54 and traveled into the left lane a couple of times, then would activate his turn signal to return to the correct westbound lane. The vehicle reportedly continued weaving at about 45 mph as Dickens traveled State Road 54.
“The vehicle sped up at the curve at approximately 60 mph,” Holt reported.
The vehicle then left the north side of the road twice. A witness stated the driver over-corrected, leaving the north side of the road and striking a large tree. The truck overturned, pinning Dickens inside.
“The male driver was unconscious but breathing when the fire department arrived. The driver was extricated and airlifted with AirEvac to Eskenazi Hospital,” Holt reported.
At this time, Holt said the investigation is ongoing into the cause of the accident. Dickens condition is unknown at this time.
Assisting at the scene were Center Township Fire Department, Bloomfield Police Department, AirEvac and Greene County Ambulance Service.
