Friday, April 27, 2018

The Linton-Stockton boys and girls track teams were victorious in a triangular meet with North Knox and Bloomfield Thursday at Charlie Hoskins Track.

The Miner boys finished 20 points ahead of North Knox, 84-64. The Cardinals tallied 15.

The Lady Miners edged the Lady Warriors 70-65 with the Lady Cardinals scoring 27.

“I thought we had a pretty good evening considering we haven't run a meet since our invite last Friday,” L-S coach Aaron Lynn said.

The coach mentioned he held some kids out of some events since Linton would be competing in the Keith Jones Invitational at Clay City Friday.

On the girls side, Caroline Wilson and Vanessa Shafford had great nights. Wilson had three firsts (HJ, LJ, and 100 hurdles) and Shafford had two (shot put and discus). Lynn mentioned Shafford finally broke the 30-foot mark in the shot.

Other first place finishers for the girls were Cryslin Woods (1600), Aubrey Burgess (800), Haley Rose (300 hurdles), and Skylar Tucker (400).

Tucker competed in the long jump for the first time this year. Lynn said Tucker is having to adjust to jumping off her right foot due to the knee injury she suffered last fall.

The boys had first place performances from Silas Robbins (shot put and discus), Sammy Robbins (HJ), Lance Dyer (LJ, 300 hurdles and 4 x 100), Evan Slover (pole vault and 4 x 400), Alec Mossburger (400 and 4 x 400), Trevor Dyer (4 x 100), Gavin House (4 x 100), Keaton Cox (4 x 100), Trey Goodman (4 x 400), and Cam Parola (4 x 400).

Silas Robbins had a great day in the discus with a personal best. Slover is back out competing again after dealing with a knee problem since the end of basketball season. Thursday was his first meet back.

Also, the 4 x 100 team of Trevor Dyer, Lance Dyer, Gavin House, and Keaton Cox had a season best time last night by over half a second.

“It was a great night all around and we'll be back at it Friday at Clay City,” Lynn said.

For the Bloomfield boys Mitchell Burch won the 1,600. Cameron Ross won the 3,200 and Andrew Sherrard was fourth. A.J. Sipes was fourth in the shot put.

For the girls Kayla Pinnick was second in the shot and discus. Abby Hartzburg was second in the 800 and fourth in the high jump. Emily Neighbors was fourth in the long jump and Julie Hudson was fourth in the discus. Hannah Walls was second in the 1,600 and 3,200.
