Greene County under Level 2 Travel Watch
As of Saturday evening, Greene County Commissioners President Nathan Abrams declared Greene County is under a Level Two Travel Watch.
According to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, "Level Two means that conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. During a "watch" local travel advisory, only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended and emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations."
Greene County Emergency Management Agency Director Roger Axe also relayed information from Jermy Inman, Center Township Fire Department, who reports several cars stalled on Indiana 54 due to the weather conditions
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, which will remain in effect until 4 a.m. Sunday.
"A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will
cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads
and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving," NWS notes.
The advisory notes potential snow accumulation of up to 3 inches and wind gusts of up to 40 mph.
"Slick roads from ice and snow, blowing and drifting snow
which will reduce visibility, wind gusts around 40 mph, and dangerous
wind chills."
The heaviest snow is expected to be ending by 10 p.m. Saturday, with cold temperatures continuing and a chance for snow again mid-week.
"Very cold temperatures will arrive to on Sunday and Monday
with wind chills well below zero. Slick roads will continue,
especially on untreated roads, into Sunday," NWS states, noting Sunday's low is expected to be around 9 degrees.
