FREE ACCESS: SR 54 to reopen under traffic restrictions
The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced that State Road 54 in the Ridgeport community will re-open soon under traffic restrictions.
At this time, INDOT has determined the geological slide in this area to be stable enough to open with one lane of traffic controlled by temporary signals. The road was closed June 4 after complications from the slide created a hole in the roadway. INDOT crews have since repaired the hole and our technical services staff believe the roadway is now stable enough to allow traffic to pass under the restrictions.
As a part of the roadway restrictions, Crowe Road at S.R. 54 will closed to through traffic. This is to accommodate necessary operating requirements for the temporary signals. The signals are expected to be in place and operational as soon as possible, potentially by the end of the week in which this writing is dated. Traffic in the area should not attempt to pass until the road is officially opened.
An announcement of opening will be made on INDOT Southwest social media accounts once the road is open. You can find those at facebook.com/INDOTVincennesDistrict or on Twitter @INDOTSouthwest.
INDOT urges drivers to slow down and stay alert near crews.
