Shakamak falls in four

At Elnora Thursday.

North Daviess beat Shakamak 20-25, 25-22, 10-25, 25-7, 15-12. Shakamak coach Emeral Goff pointed out the Lady Lakers were without the services of starters Jaci Stone and Mahayla Boram and defensive specialist Carly Reynolds, who all ran cross country.

“We had a pretty upsetting loss tonight. This was a game that we should have won in three, and maybe with our full team we could have. We had a line-up of six girls that played all the way around tonight, and they put up a tough battle,” she said. “Our serve-receive struggled throughout each game. We had a couple of girls who usually don’t play back row having to play back, and we even had our usual libero Phoenix Pena playing front row tonight. We were definitely in a mix of positions. Games four and five were a lot of serve-receive and digging errors. We just lost momentum and quit moving to the ball. Emma Booher had a great night of hitting, it was nice to see her finding the openings up at the net tonight.”

Shakamak will host Edgewood at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The Barr-Reeve Lady Vikings swept the Linton-Stockton Lady Miners in straight sets 25-13, 25-11, 25-18.

Barr-Reeve won the junior varsity contest 25-20, 25-6.

Next up for Linton (1-3) is the Springs Valley Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday.
