Eastern Greene School Corporation will hold a public pre-formal bargaining hearing at 3:15 p.m. in the multipurpose room located in the elementary school.

Abraham Lincoln: American Hero, will be stopping by the Worthington Jefferson Township Library at 6 p.m. All ages welcome to learn about the legendary character’s strengths, including his honest nature, love of learning, mastery of language, respect for hard work, emphathy for his fellow man, opposition to slavery and ability to lead, which were shaped largely during his time in the Midwest.

Greene County Right to Life will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. in the Greene County General Hospital Conference room.

Officers of Eastern Greene Schools will conduct a public hearing on the year 2020 proposed Bus Replacement Plan pursuant to IC 20-40-18. Following the public hearing, Eastern Greene Schools may adopt the proposed plan as presented or with revisions. The hearing will be held in the Administration Office located at 1471 N. SR 43. Taxpayers are invited to attend the meeting for a detailed explanation of the plan and to be heard.

Tuesday, September 10

The Greene County Veterans’ Council will meet at 7 p.m. at the VFW Post 7118 in Linton.

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Bloomfield Chapter 0847 will meet at the Casa Sevilla Restaurant in Bloomfield at 11:30 a.m. The business meeting will follow the luncheon. All Federal employees, retirees and spouses are welcome to attend.

Diabetes is a global epidemic, affecting an increasing number of men, women and children all over the world. You are invited to attend a free community event to learn about the symptoms of diabetes and how you can control this disease. The Dugger Lions Club in Dugger will host Sullivan County Community Hospital at 6 p.m. at 8174 E Main Street to provide education about this disease. Everyone is invited to attend.

The regular monthly meeting of the Greene County Sheriff’s Merit Board will take place at 6 p.m. in the conference room at the Greene County Jail. The Jail is located at 204 County Road 70 East, at the east edge of Bloomfield.

Teen Movie Night at the Bloomfield Public Library from 4:30 p.m.-7 p.m. Spend an evening watching a movie. Snacks and soda will be provided. Call the Bloomfield Public Library to find out the movie that will be shown. Grades 7-12.

The Greene County Center for Women’s Ministries (CWM) will be offering an interactive class on the book “Finding I AM” by Lysa Terkeurst beginning Thursday, September 12, 2019 and will run for 6 consecutive weeks at 10 a.m. Class will be taught by Linda Bray. Beechwood Lake Christian Camp north of Bloomfield will host Family Camp 2019 from Sept. 13-15. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. Friday with services starting at 7:30 p.m. A weekend of great fellowship, messages based on family, special music and great food. The Highland Township Calvertsville School will hold a reunion at the Calvertsville Fire Station. Pitch-in dinner at 1 p.m.

Greene County high school and homeschool seniors are encouraged to submit an essay of at least 1,000 words for a chance to win $500. This year’s topic is ‘How has literacy attributed to your life goals and your accomplishments?’ Essays are due by Sunday, Sept. 15. The annual 2019 Mom Prom, sponsored by the Greene County Sexual Assault Response Team, will take place from 6-10 p.m. at Heshey Hall in the Greene County Community Event Center (Fairgrounds). This “ladies only” event consists of dining, dancing, a silent auction, photos and the crowning of a Mom Prom Queen along with raising awareness about sexual assault in our community and the services which are available. The Owen Valley Class of 1984 – 35th reunion will take place at Mulligan’s Restaurant and Pub located at Rolling Meadows Golf Club in Owen County. Homeschool Day at the Bloomfield Public Library from 1pm-3pm A roundtable discussion for all those involved in homeschooling their children. Discuss the role/s you would like to see the library play in your child’s education and what you would like the library to do to help you, the parent/teacher, survive homeschooling.

The Greene County Literacy Coalition will hold their annual meeting at 7 p.m. at the Library Annex, located at 87 E. Spring St. in Bloomfield. Join us to celebrate our literacy volunteers, tutors and learners. Free food and a dessert bar will be available. Special guest author Veronica Kirin will have a book signing and a presentation on her book, “Stories of Elders:What the Greatest Generation Knows About Technology That You Don’t”. Adult summer reading at the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library July 1 – August 31.

Little Friends Preschool, located at Linton First Christian Church at 9878 W. SR 54 in Linton, is accepting enrollment for Fall 2019. Openings are available for three and four-year-olds on Tuesdays and Thursdays for morning class and afternoon class and for pre-kindergartners in the afternoon class on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The Bloomfield First Baptist Church Community Food Pantry is located at 500 Lincoln Drive in Bloomfield. The pantry serves individuals and families in the following zip codes: 47424 Bloomfield, 47439 Koleen, 47449 Newberry, 47453 Owensburg/Desden, 47457 Scotland and 47522 Crane. The hours of operation are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning from 9-11 a.m. and Tuesday evening from 4:30-6 p.m. Eligibility is determined by monthly/yearly income and proof of residence. All individuals or family may visit once a month and proof of residence is required each visit.

The Friends of the Bloomfield Library Book Shop is in the Library Annex on the square across from the Court House in Bloomfield. The Book Shop is open Tuesdays 10-1, Wednesdays 10-1, Thursdays 1-4 and first Saturdays 1-4. Center Township Trustee meeting will be the second Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. at the Center Township Fire Department.

Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD) support group meets on the second Tuesday each month at 6 p.m. at Redemption Christian Church in Loogootee. This group is for caregivers of those affected by FTD. The group will share the most accurate and current information about FTD and provide a space to share resources and provide peer support for care partners. The first meeting is Tuesday, January 8

Beginning August 8 and continuing every Wednesday at 9 a.m, Autumn Trace Assisted Living, located in Linton, will host Faithful Fitness 3:21, an exercise class for those with limited mobility. Chairs will be provided and classes are open to all ages. The public is welcome to attend. Donations will be accepted, but are not required nor expected.

Mom Moments, hosted by Pregnancy Choices, will meet the first Monday of each month from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church in Linton. New mom and pregnancy support group will include open question and answers, discussion, devotion and snacks.

Free Faithful Fitness classes at Coal City Community Bible Church Monday evenings at 6. We will be doing aerobic exercises to contemporary Christian music. Jasonville Senior Citizen Center will serve breakfast on the first Friday of every month from 7-9:30 a.m. The Center is located one block off Main street in downtown Jasonville and has a sign. Menu includes a full order of biscuits and gravy for $3.50 (half order $2); orange juice, biscuit, sausage patty, scrambled eggs and hash browns each for 75 cents; and free coffee. Eat in or carry out. This meal is open to the public and hosted by a non-profit organization.

Bloomfield American Legion Post No. 196 hosts Bingo Thursdays. Winner takes all 5:30 p.m. Indiana Blackout at 6:15 p.m. Early bird 6:30 p.m. and regular games at 7 p.m. The post hosts treasure hunt Fridays at 7 p.m. Open to the public.

The Worthington Senior Citizens Center holds a breakfast on the second Thursday of every month from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. On the last Wednesday of every month, there is a pitch-in lunch. Every Tuesday evening at 6:30 there is a Euchre Tournament at a cost of $3. Bid Euchre is played Monday through Saturday at 9 a.m. and pinochle on Thursday and Friday at 1 p.m.

The Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will meet in the conference room at the USDA Building in Bloomfield on the first Tuesday of each month. Nov. through March, the meeting will begin at 7 a.m. April to Oct. the meeting will begin at 6 a.m.

The Lyons Community Food Pantry at 150 East Broad Street (the old fire station) will be open from 4 to 5:30 p.m. the third Monday of every month, and the first Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The pantry serves zip codes 47443 and 47465.
Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The Pleasantville United Methodist Church food pantry is now open on the fourth Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. until noon.

ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) Support Group: Those with ALS and their loved ones are invited to attend the ALS Association’s monthly support group meeting on the second Thursday of the month from 6:30-8 p.m. Location: Comfort Keepers, 4101 E. 3rd St., Bloomington. The Bloomfield Public Library is establishing a bulletin board to be a central spot to look for local job listings and they hope to include any job openings that are within walking distance of Bloomfield town. If area businesses will notify the library when they have an opening, a flier will be created for them and posted on the bulletin board. The Eastern branch of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library will have Tot’s Time on Mondays at 10:15 a.m., Preschool Story Time on Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m., Fun Times on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m., Book Club for grades eight and up at 7 p.m. discussing “Paper Towns” and book clubs for grades four to seven on Tuesdays at 3 p.m. discussing “Shiloh.”

The Eastern branch of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene Public Library will have Princes and Princesses Storytime for ages 6-9 Tuesdays at 2:30 p.m. and Kings and Queens Storytime for ages 9-12 Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.

The American Legion Post 22 in Linton will be having its regular meeting at 7 p.m. rather than 8 p.m. on the second and last Thursday of every month.

The Scotland Historical Society has Greene County themed afghans to sell. The afghan features popular Greene County landmarks and consist of a list of all Greene County cities and towns lining the afghan. The multi-colored afghans sell for $45 each and may be purchased at Main Street Gifts in Linton or by calling Brenda Massette at 384-5118.

Making A Difference, a small group of Linton First Christian Church will sponsor Second Saturday Soup each month, which will include free lunch for anyone from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. in the East Shelter House at Humphreys Park in Linton. Look for signs. Homemade lunch menu will vary.

The town of Switz City will conduct its monthly meetings on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Switz City Town Hall. If the Monday falls on a holiday, the meeting will be conducted the following Tuesday. The town hall is located at 220 Charlotte Avenue in Switz City.

The Bloomfield-Eastern Greene Public Library will host Preschool Storytime on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. for ages 4-6 yrs. Come and listen to a children’s story read by Mrs. Linda and enjoy a craft.

An Alzheimer’s Association Caregivers Support Group will meet on the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at Switz City Christian Church.
