Order pizza and support Project Lifesaver

If you stop by Jasonville Pizza Villa or Jo Etta’s Pizza Villa in Linton Monday evening, you can help support a program that helps to protect some of Greene County’s most vulnerable citizens.

Local law enforcement will be waiting tables, and earning tips, at the two Pizza Villa locations Monday from 5-9 p.m. to raise money for Project Lifesaver.

Greene County Sheriff’s Department’s Major George Dallaire explained the local chapter of Project Lifesaver is coordinated by the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, and is dedicated to helping those in danger of wandering, Hasler explained. The program serves individuals with Alzheimer’s, dementia, autism, Down Syndrome and other developmental disorders.

“We are to protect and serve all individuals and that includes those with disabilities,” Hasler said previously.

The non-profit program is offered free of charge to the families enrolled and is 100 percent supported by donations and grants.

Project Lifesaver provides a bracelet with GPS capabilities, and the sheriff’s department has the locating device, which tracks radiofrequency. Major Dallaire is the facilitator for the program, so when the batteries need to be switched out on a very specific schedule based on the device, he is the one who goes to the schools or homes to make the change.

Area law enforcement officers are donating their time to earn tips while waiting tables, which will support Project Lifesaver.

The goal of the fundraiser is to raise money to purchase additional equipment and add participants to the program. Funds raised will also help with purchasing additional batteries, which have to be changed frequently, at no cost to the family.

The law enforcement officers at the two locations have a friendly competition planned, with Jasonville barely edging out Linton location last year, raising $880 and $843.06 respectively.
