GCDW shifts to Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday print schedule

Tuesday, December 31, 2019

It’s no secret the print news industry is changing, and we are constantly making changes to adapt in order to continue bringing readers a quality product with hyper-local news.

While most of these changes can be made without our readers seeing a difference in our product, sometimes we have to make decisions that impact our readers.

The Greene County Daily World will continue to print three days a week and bring you daily updates to the website, but our print schedule will be shifting to Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. The change will be effective Jan. 7, with our first Tuesday paper.

In the coming months, the United States Post Office will be raising the rates paid to send out the newspaper, which will obviously impact our budget, along with other changes in the industry that impact our bottom line.

Rather than make cuts to our product, we will instead be aligning our print schedule with our two sister papers, The Brazil Times and Greencastle Banner Graphic, to efficiently print all three papers at the Greencastle location. By bringing all three papers to the same print schedule, we will be able to save money on labor without the added Sunday night production for Monday’s paper.

As we sat down to discuss how to make this transition without causing strain on our readers, we thought it was important to go no more than two days without a newspaper, which is why we opted to shift to a Saturday paper rather than Friday.

Plus, to be honest, our staff missed having Friday night sports in the next day’s paper for our readers to see how their local teams faired on the courts or fields.

We appreciate your continued support as we make changes to ensure the Greene County Daily World is here for the long haul. In recent years, we have had to make some tough decisions, but each of those decisions are made with you, the readers, in mind.

We will continue to bring you Greene County news, and we will do our best to keep making changes to ensure you receive your newspaper in your mailbox.

“We are constantly thinking of our readers when we review our budgets each year. We are looking forward to 2020 and bringing our readers the most accurate news with our online and print products,” General Manager Christy Lehman explained.
