FREE ACCESS: Greene County schools to close as precaution against COVID-19

Friday, March 13, 2020

As announced by the Linton-Stockton School Corporation (LSSC), five Greene County school districts will close from Monday, March 16 through Friday, April 3 to keep students safe amid the recent COVID-19 case confirmations in Indiana.

LSSC announced the news via a press release issued March 13.

“The safety and security of our students and staff are of critical importance to us,” the release states. “We believe the safest course of action is for all LSSC schools to close March 16 through April 3, 2020. This time frame encompasses our regularly scheduled spring break March 23 - 27. In addition to the schools, all athletic practices, competitions and extra-curricular activities, with the exception of IHSAA state contests, are canceled. The need to add additional days/weeks of closure will be evaluated as we continue to work through this unprecedented time in our country.”

Reached by telephone, school officials at Eastern Greene and MSD Shakamak confirmed their participation and the Bloomfield School District and White River Valley School District issued separate press releases to announce the news.

There will be no athletic practices or extra-curricular events at any level at any time, beginning March 16. This will minimize exposure and allow time to have all buildings and buses deep cleaned.

All new information will be available at the WRV district website at www.wrv.k12.in.us, posted on the front doors of all WRVSD schools and communicated through both Harmony email and School Messenger. Plans are in place to offer a bagged lunch at each of the schools from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at a designated entrance on E-Learning days. Students will not be allowed to enter the school. (A student can go to any of our three buildings to get a lunch.)
