UPDATE: Name released in Linton homicide investigation

The Linton Police Department is investigating the homicide of a man located on the porch of a vacant house in southeast Linton.

According to a press release issued by Linton Police Chief Paul Clark, the Linton Police Department was dispatched to the residence on March 18 and the "circumstances at the scene were notable suspicious."

On Friday afternoon, police identified the deceased as John P. Chapman, 46, of Linton. An autopsy was performed and manner of death was determined to be a homicide.

"With the assistance of the Indiana State Police Crime Scene Investigators and the Greene County Coroner's Office, substantial physical evidence was documented and recovered," Clark wrote in a press release.

"The Linton Police Department is aggressively investigating this crime and will continue to do so. The Linton PD has been assisted by the Indiana State Police, Greene County Prosecutor's Office and Jasonville Police Department.
