FREE ACCESS: White River Valley Schools announce closure until May 1

Thursday, March 19, 2020

White River Valley School Superintendent Dr. Bob Hacker issued a press release Thursday informing the public of WRV’s compliance with the announcement by Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb shutting down all Indiana school until May 1, 2020.

“Thank you for your support as we work through these unprecedented times,” Hacker said. “The security of our students and our staff is of critical importance to us all. As the virus continues to spread, we believe the safest course of action is to close our schools on the following schedule with our neighbors to the west, the Linton-Stockton School Corporation.”

The updated schedule is:

• Friday, March 20 - Monday, March 30 -- regularly scheduled spring break

• Tuesday, March 31 - Friday, April 3 -- four waiver days

*There will be no food deliveries made during these shut-down times.

• Monday, April 6 - Friday, May 1 -- Monday through Thursday: Extended E-learning program/restart lunch grab & go. Friday: Student catch-up day with teachers available 9 a.m. to noon (If you are caught up, Fridays will be waiver days for you, with no new assignments).

Teachers will post assignments by 9 a.m. and will be available for students 9 a.m. to noon each E-learning day for questions via email or Google Classroom.

The release further states:

There will be no athletic practices or extra-curricular events at any level at any time during these closures. The need to add additional days or weeks to the closure may be forthcoming as we continue to work with the Greene County Health Department and the Indiana Department of Education.

All new information will be available at the WRV district website at www.wrv.k12.in.us, will be posted on the front doors of all WRVSD schools and communicated through both Harmony email and School Messenger.

Plans are being formulated again to offer bagged lunches at each of the schools from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., starting again on April 6.

“My heart goes out to all of our families, bust especially those of our seniors,” Hacker said. “Again, we are using the word ‘postponed,’ rather than ‘canceled’. We must continue to stick together and work through these challenges. Have faith and courage; we can and we will fight through it!”
