Local farm fielding consumer options
Located in Jasonville, District 6 Farms, (named after the old “District No. 6” schoolhouse on the property), offers consumers an alternative to grocery shopping at big-box stores. Owned and operated by husband and wife team Austin and Kristen Witt, the farm is home to five acres of blackberries in four varieties- Natchez, Ouachita, Apache, and Chester. What started as a homesteading idea for chickens, goats and donkeys evolved into 3,700 blackberry plants, a partnership with Piazza Produce, the launch of a new market and an ever-expanding field of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, eggplant, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans and more. They’ve come a long way since 2015, when the couple grabbed a small group of friends and family and set out on a three day excursion to plant the 300-foot-long rows of blackberries by hand.
