“Grandpa Bob” remembered by the Vanderpools

Linton, Indiana…..Linton, Indiana! The year was 1999 and our daughter, Wendy Vanderpool, was the Miss Indiana State Festival Queen. She got to pick where she wanted to travel throughout the year and what festivals she would attend. She picked the Festival and Parade in Linton, Indiana as her destination for the 4th of July. The Chamber of Commerce agreed to have Wendy come. She is a singer so they had her entertain at the Band Stand the night before the parade. The problem? There were no hotels left in Linton and we would have to stay in Sullivan. A man named Bob Bradford just happened to be at the Chamber. Bob was single and had room at his house so he invited us to stay with him. I told my daughter that I was not about to stay with someone I didn’t know. Well, turn the clock forward…Our family did indeed stay with someone we didn’t know. Yes, it was Bob Bradford. Bob picked us up in front of the Chamber Office and the rest is history. We fell in love with Bob after the first 5 minutes. His immediate family was deceased. Our family sure did have room in our hearts for one more “grandpa”. 21 years later, the love still flowed strong, even when we made the long drive to visit him at the Glenburn Nursing Home.
