Greene County Council discusses pay rates

Tuesday, September 29, 2020

The Greene County council met in regular session at 4 p.m. on Sept. 28 in the Bloomfield Courthouse. Following the approval of minutes, the board approved an additional appropriation request of $45,000 from the highway superintendent. In addition, the EMS director requested an adjustment in PRN pay rates. Hourly paramedic rates were requested to be upped to $18, along with paramedics with certification at a rate of $19 an hour and EMT rates for $13.50 an hour, up from $13 for EMT’s and $17 for paramedics without critical care certification. That motion was tabled for the Oct. meeting of county council.

Marvin Abshire stated he had worked with the board to generate job descriptions regarding two open positions in the Soil and Water District. Those positions are expected to be posted on the Greene County government website in the coming days.

In addition, the board approved budget transfers at the request of Sheriff Mike Hasler.

The board also passed a motion to serve as the fiscal body for the Bloomfield Public Library.

Lastly, the board conducted budgetary discussions and approvals.

The next regular meeting of the Greene County Council will take place at 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26.

The council has wanted the old bank building for a while now. There was a business going to locate in it but the library took it over. Just watch the county will end up with the building and the people of Greene County will lose more tax base and pay for it.

    JohnPColeman,

My mistake, the board will be serving as the fiscal body for the library.

I’d love to hear that explained. The county council taking over a city entity? All I know is we had a viable business wanting to locate there and pay taxes on the assessed value of $364,000 and now we don’t. I would hope the council would support businesses not deter them. I hope this is not a way that the council can get a nice building at the taxpayers expense.
