The truck struck a utility pole just outside Pickin Dixons in Linton

A fire broke out Tuesday evening when a pickup truck struck a utility pole on State Road 54 in Linton, near Pickin Dixons.

No one was inside Pickin Dixons at the time of the crash.

Both the Linton Fire Department and Wright Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.

According to Linton Fire Chief Brad Sparks, the driver of the truck, who has not been identified, ran from the vehicle after the crash. The driver is currently in custody.

When the truck collided with the pole, the pole snapped in half. The top half of the pole landed in the truck bed. The truck was burning for at least 30 minutes before it was successfully put it.

The gas line underneath the truck was ruptured, which Sparks said was the main source of the burning. A fire hydrant was also broken in the crash.

As a result of the crash, certain areas in the northwest part of town are experiencing power outages. Power is in the process of being restored.
