A local family has established a GoFundMe account in order to pay for the cremation of Linton resident Merle Pigg Jr., their family member.

Pigg’s sister, Christi Mathis, said Pigg lost his battle to heart disease at his residence in Linton on April 12, 2021.

“He kept it (his condition) a secret from us so we wouldn’t worry about him,” she said.

The family would like to publish an obituary and is in need of at least $2,500 to pay for funeral costs.

Mathis said Pigg leaves behind his son, Sean Pigg of Nevada, Calif.; a daughter, Chelsea Pigg and son-in-law Brian Williams of Evansville; Dawn Heck, Carol Pearson, Mary Ann Mason, Geoff Caddell, Joby Phipps, Holly Cox, JR Harrell and a sister, herself.

She said her brother loved cooking, music, caving, fishing, camping, practicing the art of Wicca, night hiking and making his famous bread.

Mathis also mentioned Pigg’s love for his dogs, Buddy, Dutchess, Pandora and Elvis. The four dogs, all Golden retrievers, are in need of homes as well.

“We will be having a private ceremony after his cremation,” Mathis added.
