Irving (Irv) Medlock, Jr. died peacefully on January 14, 2023, surrounded by family in his home in Bradenton, Fla. Irv was born in Greene County on March 2, 1930 into a family of nine siblings. He attended Marco High School until the age of 17, working in Hinkle’s restaurant in Linton while attending school. He then enlisted in the Army and proudly served as a corpsman medic for six years in Austria and Hawaii. He dutifully dedicated one half of his military pay to his family back in Greene County during his service. After being honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant, he spent his career as a medical technician in an Indianapolis Chrysler factory until the plant closed in the late 1980s and he retired.

After retirement, Irv and his wife Florence “Marie” returned to Greene County, to Linton, to be near family. To escape Indiana winters, Irv and Marie became snowbirds and then eventually settled full-time in Bradenton, Fla., though he always considered Linton home and often returned to visit family. During retirement Irv and Marie went on many cruises and vacations abroad with family.

Irv was generous with his love and kindness and considered by all who knew him as a hard-working, sweet, good and honest man. Irv was a jokester and said the key to a long and happy life was “to have a good belly laugh every day, preferably in the morning.” This is his legacy. Irv was an avid fan of NASCAR and the Indy 500, the Indianapolis Colts and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Irv is survived by his wife, Marie, the love of his life for almost 50 years; one brother, Franklin (Medlock); his three children, Timothy, Douglas and Joy (Medlock); and three step-sons, Steve, Jon and Tony (Sarris). He was grandpa to T.J. (Medlock), Angela, Bryon and Kyle (Sarris); and great-grandpa to Marley (Medlock), Daniel, Morgan and Peyton (Sarris).

Irv will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Greene County. May he rest in eternal peace.
